Unknown Verona

Duration of the visit: 3/4 hours

Unusual Verona, off the beaten track

Here is a half-day guided tour to discover the city's lesser-known sites.

Giardino Giusti

On the left bank of the city is the Giardino Giusti, created towards the end of the 15th century. The garden still retains the structure designed in 1570 by Agostino Giusti as the backdrop of the Palazzo Giusti.
One of the most beautiful views of Verona opens up under the belvedere.

Church of Santa Maria in Organo

Not far from the garden, a little hidden, you will find the church of Santa Maria in Organo, a true unicum of the Veronese Renaissance, with the precious inlaid work of Fra Giovanni da Verona.

A walk through the Cathedral district

A visit to the Cathedral complex is highly recommended as part of the "Unusual Verona" itinerary.

The complex, built over the ancient Roman baths, includes the remains of the first and second early Christian church.

The Cathedral is covered with frescoes from different periods. There are funerary monuments and a high altar with frescoes based on the drawings of Giulio Romano, the most brilliant pupil of Raphael, who lived in the nearby city of Mantua.

The church of Sant'Elena and the baptistery of San Giovanni are also part of the Cathedral complex.
Inside the latter is an octagonal baptistery in Verona marble, decorated with scenes from the Old and New Testaments.

And finally

The oldest part of the city, where the first Veronese lived before the Roman colonization.

Here, during the 1st century BC, the Roman Theater and the Pietra Bridge were built.
The Roman Theater is one of the largest and best preserved in northern Italy. The complex stretched from the bank of the Adige to the top of the hill.

Starting from the 10th century, a church and a monastery were built above the steps of the theater. Today the monastery houses the Archaeological Museum. From the museum terrace, the view of the city is breathtaking...
