Details

Verona through the centuries, a history of over two thousand years. Here is an itinerary with a private guide.
The walking tour includes a visit to the outside of the arena. If you want to visit the inside of the arena with your guide, you only have to mention this at the beginning of the tour. This ancient Roman amphitheatre is one of the largest and best preserved in the world. Today it is one of the most important venues for opera and hosts a renowned festival every year. The tour continues through Piazza Bra and winds its way through the ancient heart of Verona. We pass through the courtyard of Juliet’s House and head towards Romeo’s House, which is now private and can therefore only be visited from the outside.
Piazza delle Erbe with its wonderful frescoed Mazzanti houses from the 16th century and the picturesque market is certainly an unmissable stop. In Roman times, the Piazza was the forum. Today it is a typical medieval square. The Torre dei Lamberti dominates the Piazza, next to the Torre del Gardello and the smaller, more massive Torre delle Carceri. The column with the winged lion of St Mark overlooks the square, commemorating the four centuries of peace of Venetian rule.
We continue towards the elegant Piazza dei Signori. Here are the private buildings of the Scaligeri family. We are then in the Scala family district, with their palaces, the private chapel or church of Santa Maria Antica, the private cemetery with the beautiful funerary arches or Arche Scaligere. Next we find the Cortile Mercato Vecchio and some Roman remains. A walk along the Adige river concludes the visit to “Verona through the centuries”, an overview of more than twenty centuries of history. Book your private visit!
