Why choose this tour

Soave, a jewel nestled in the Veronese hills, is a must-see destination for those who want to immerse themselves in a medieval atmosphere and savor the beauty of a perfectly preserved village. But what makes this place so special? Let’s find out together!
A walled city, a medieval village, this is how Soave presents itself to the visitor, dominated by a mighty castle and surrounded entirely by crenellated walls and massive towers.
The walled city is primarily a wine centre, famous throughout the world for its classic white wine. Wine tasting is highly recommended. It can be done in a wine shop in town or in one of the many wine cellars in the area. Soave lies at the foot of the Lessini Mountains and is about 30 kilometres from Verona. The first human settlements date back to the Stone Age. In Roman times there was a small centre along the Via Postumia, the Roman road that passed through here.
The present historical centre was founded in the Longobard period by a tribe of Nordic origin who settled in the area because of its ideal geographical position, climate, soil and natural beauty. Today, Soave is a town rich in history, palaces and a well-preserved castle that can be visited.
Soave is also a paradise for wine lovers. It is world famous for its white wine, an excellent product made from Garganega grapes. By visiting the many wine cellars in the area, you can taste the local wines and discover the secrets of their production.

Details

The castle can be reached in two ways, on foot from the historical centre of the village or by car or bus from the road behind the village.
Dominating the village from above, the Scaligero Castle is an unmistakable symbol of Soave. Its mighty walls and towers offer a breathtaking view over the valley and the historic centre.
The castle of Soave, built on Roman remains, has been rebuilt several times. The most important restoration was that of Cansignorio in 1369. It has walkable walls, three courtyards, the remains of a sacred building, the lord’s residence and a keep. From the keep there is an incomparable view of the hills, mountains and plains that surround the village of Soave.
The village is completely surrounded by the Scaligero walls. Built during the Della Scala seigniory, they completely encircle the town and have three gates giving access to the historic centre: Porta Aquila to the north, Porta Vicentina to the east and Porta Verona to the south. Porta Verona is the main entrance and there is a convenient car and coach park nearby.
The palaces. The Palace of Justice is located in the city centre. Built in 1375, it is a building with a loggia and ogival windows. Built on the orders of Cansignorio della Scala, it was the seat of the rector, governor and magistrate.
Palazzo Cavalli, built in 1411 by Nicolò Cavalli, a fine example of the Gothic-Venetian style.
Palazzo Scaligero, built by Cansignorio della Scala, was the residence of the captains during the Venetian period. Today it is the seat of the Soave Town Hall. Next to it is a beautiful park, donated to the town of Soave by the Zanella family.
Sacred buildings. Several churches were built between the 11th and 16th centuries following the arrival of important religious orders such as the Dominicans, Franciscans, etc. Of particular interest are Santa Maria dei Domenicani, San Giorgio, the Bassanella and the Parish Church.
